Punta Suarez, Espanola
This afternoon at Punta Suarez, Espanola was
very different
as far a
terrain. It was a dry landing with a
very difficult
walk over boulders.
There were iguanas all over. You had to be very
careful not to step on
one. There were also lots of sea lions and
crabs.
But this was a day for birds:
Blue footed boobies
Nasca boobies
Albatross
And there were lots and lots of them,
especially the nasca
boobies and albatross. Many of the albatross
had babies.
There was a place the naturalists call
albatross airport
where they like to fly off the cliff.
I tripped near the end, fell backwards and
bruised my
tailbone. Lots of ice and I'm okay.
Several of us have been surprised to see so many animals.
Just a word of explanation:
Each day we have a morning and afternoon "activity." We
learn the night before about our activity choices. Usually there
is a short walk and a long walk. The short walk is not
necessarily easier.
